Another 9 patch variation
For this series of blocks, you need 9 print blocks and 9 solid blocks. I used 3.75″ square blocks.
Sew 9 patches using five print and four solid squares and another block with five solids and four prints. In the second step, you cut off 1.875″ from all sides of each block (note picture)
Take the strips from one block and switch with the strips of the other block.
After sewing the exchanged strips to the residual centers, trim and you have a totally new look for the old nine-patch. (see final picture) You will need to trim off some “tails” from the sides of the blocks.
I plan to combine these with Sunbonnet Sue blocks to make a queen quilt.
